About Phil-Organic

History and Aims

The Philippine Organic Agriculture Information Network (Phil-Organic) is an information service that provides accessible data/information to various stakeholders in the organic agriculture industry. Phil-Organic aims to facilitate the exchange of information, expertise, and experience in the field of organic agriculture among government, non-government and research institutions, private practitioners, and other organic agriculture advocates.

The establishment of Phil-Organic started when the participants of the consultation-workshop held last December 2005 agreed to establish an information networking arrangement that would help disseminate organic agriculture technologies and provide market linkages among the consumers and producers. Phil-Organic was launched during the Philippine Society of Soil Science and Technology (PSSST) Symposium last June 1, 2006. The members of the network signed the Memorandum of Agreement at PCARRD, Los Banos, Laguna last September 29, 2006.

The approval of Executive Order 481 titled "Promotion and Development of Organic Agriculture in the Philippines" last December 2005 further strengthened the need for an information system for organic agriculture. The implementing rules and regulations of EO 481, signed last August 2006, specifies that the secretariat of the National Technical Committee and the National Organic Agriculture Board, which is lodged with the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Product Standards and in collaboration with PCARRD, shall serve as the data information center and shall integrate and disseminate these data through electronic and other means to interested stakeholders through the Phil-Organic Network.
