Control of white stem borer in rice using Trichogramma japonicum Ashmead |
||||
|
In Caraga, the problem with white stem borer (WSB), Scirpophaga innotata Walker, coupled with type 2 climate (no defined wet or dry seasons), solar radiation, and incidence of insect pests and diseases contributed to the very low rice yield of 2.78 t/ha. This was one of the lowest yields among rice growing regions in the country. As this problem requires vigorous but environment friendly solutions, Estoy et.al. (Phil/rice-Agusan) monitored the natural enemies of WSB. Specifically, the study determined the occurrence of the predators and parasitoids of WSB in the field and evaluated the efficiency of the egg parasitoid, Trichogramma japonicum Ashmead. Findings
