The
experts’ exchange mission between PCARRD and the Rural Development
Administration (RDA) of Korea continues this year with the signing
of the 2005–2006 work plan of cooperation between the two
organizations.
In the recently
signed work plan, the exchange mission covers eleven areas, as follows:
1) production system for high-quality and functional vegetables;
2) food safety measurement of fresh vegetables; 3) cultivation,
processing, and marketing of hot pepper; 4) new garlic production
system; 5) applied communication/quality documentation; 6) study
of heat resistance for dairy cattle in the tropical climate; 7)
establishment of a livestock improvement system; 8) decision support
and expert system in rural development and extension; 9) research
for the enhancement of farm household income; 10) photo documentation
of Philippine farms; and 11) English language training course.
Agencies of
the Philippine national agricultural research system involved in
this year’s work plan are the Mariano Marcos State University,
Benguet State University, and Los Baños National Crops R&D
Center-Bureau of Plant Industry.
Also
in the work plan are the Postdoctorate Fellowship Program (PDF)
and the consultative meeting and PDF program assessment. Five Filipino
scientists will go to Korea in 2006 for postdoctoral programs in
crops, livestock, and agricultural resource management. (Marie M.
