In
a bid to have an agribusiness focus and sharpen its ability to deliver
its expected outputs, PCARRD has restructured its Technical Advisory
Committee (TAC), paring down its membership from 16 to 10, six of
whom belong to the government and four from the private sector.
The new members from the private sector are Mr. Senen C. Bacani,
private sector representative to the Department of Trade and Industry-Export
Development Council; Mr. Maurico C. Feliciano, assistant vice president
of the Land Bank of the Philippines Development Assistance Department;
Mr. Meneleo J. Carlos Jr., chair of the Federation of Philippine
Industries; and Mr. Leonardo Q. Montemayor, president of the Federation
of Free Farmers.
Bacani,
former Department of Agriculture (DA) secretary and a key player
in Mindanao’s agricultural industry, serves as the TAC vice
chair.
Feliciano
is one of the key promoters of the b2bpricenow.com, an online portal
for farmers and local merchants trading agricultural products and
services.
Carlos
is also the president of RI Chemical Corp., a bulk producer of coco
diesel.
Montemayor,
also a former DA secretary, has active advisory roles in various
government agencies and corporations as well as organized farmers’
groups.
The
ex officio TAC members from the government are Dr. Agustin A. Piñol,
officer-in-charge, Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau; Dr.
William C. Medrano, executive director, Commission on Higher Education;
Mr. Nicomedes P. Eleazar, director, DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research;
and Mr. Felizardo K. Virtucio Jr., director, Agriculture Staff of
the National Economic and Development Authority.
