“We’re optimistic that we can re-establish our collaborations
on science and technology endeavors,” PCARRD Executive Director
Patricio S. Faylon said.
PCARRD, through
its Planning and Development Division (PDD), saw the event as a
springboard to renew the collaboration with the French Agricultural
Research Centre for International Development or CIRAD, which provides
wide-ranging international development support.
“I am
very flattered with the kind of preparation that you did for this
visit,” said Ambassador Chesnel. He listened to the Council’s
presentations and noted the efforts exerted to renew the ties.
Both parties
agreed to conduct regular visits and meetings to look at the areas
of interest that would be of benefit to France and the Philippines.
PDD head, Dr.
Leah J. Buendia, presented in detail PCARRD’s partnership
with the French Government, which started in 1978 when the Council
became a recipient of CIRAD’s support in establishing a rubber
testing center and a forest biotechnology laboratory.
The
French Government also gave grants for the Multilevel Analysis Tool
for Agriculture and for training some 100 Filipino scientists and
technical experts, benefiting seven R&D institutions, among
other things. (Maria Estela H. Facundo, S&T Media Service)
