Strategic plan for
forestry under way |

|
The
forestry cluster hopes to go full blast as it firms up its industry
strategic plan (ISP) for 2005–2020.
In
a meeting held at PCARRD, Los Baños, Laguna, on March 27,
team leaders and members of the nine subclusters were tasked to
further prioritize their identified R&D programs, their target
sites/regions, and their specific products.

Among
the strategic priority programs presented during the meeting were
policy reforms and institutional development; sustainable management
of residual forests and permanent grazing lands; commercial forest
plantation; bamboo development; industrial crop plantation; biodiversity
and ecotourism; watershed integrated development program; forest-based
industries rationalization and development; development of monitoring
and evaluation as well as criteria and indicator systems for all
forest types and management systems; and community-based forest
management as a cross-cutting strategy in all forest management
systems.
PCARRD’s
Forestry and Environment Research Division coordinated the meeting,
the output of which will be presented during the zonal consultations.
The
first zonal consultation, which will cover Regions 3, 4, and 5,
will be on April 6–7 at the PCARRD headquarters. (Ma. Rowena
