| The
Philippine Association of Research Managers, Inc. (PHILARM) will
hold its 16th national convention on April 18–21 with the
theme “Quality management system for enhanced research, development,
and extension productivity and accountability.”
The convention will be held at the Mariano Marcos
State University in Batac, Ilocos Norte.
Guests from the Management Association of the Philippines,
Southeast Asian Center for Graduate Studies and Research in Agriculture,
International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics, East
West Seed Company, and Northern Food Corporation will present papers
on quality management system.
To be conferred in the convention is the Best Research
and Development (R&D) Management Paper Award, which recognizes
original and unpublished research results or documentation of R&D
management experiences that lead to an improved R&D or extension
program/project of an agency, unit, or organization. A plaque and
a cash prize await the winner.
Also to be awarded is the outstanding research manager
whose significant achievements and/or pioneering efforts have enhanced
the role of research managers in the country. PHILARM selected Dr.
Patricio S. Faylon, executive director of PCARRD, as this year’s
awardee for research leadership excellence.
The awarding ceremonies, along with the induction
of new officers, board members, and members, will be on April 20,
after the general assembly meeting and election of officers.
PHILARM was founded in September 1989 to promote
and enhance the role of research managers in improving and sustaining
productivity in research. Its vision is to become the leading professional
organization of research in the Asia Pacific Region.
The association was organized and nurtured by PCARRD.
It is currently chaired by Dr. William C. Medrano, executive director
of the Commission on Higher Education.
The association now has more than 1,000 members.
Membership is open to all individuals and nationalities involved
in research, those performing managerial functions in the research
system, and graduate students whose major field is research management.
