Earlier
this week, local farmers, extension workers, agricultural technologists,
and local government officials in Bacnotan, La Union, and Vigan,
Ilocos Sur, tried their hands on top-of-the-line laptops to access
the Internet inside the brand-new “mobile IT classroom”
bus of the Department of Science and Technology.

This
has been made possible through the Knowledge Networking Towards
Enterprising Agricultural Communities (K-AgriNet) information and
communication technology (ICT) roadshow, which has begun its nationwide
run.
The
roadshow aims to acquaint agricultural stakeholders with the basics
in accessing agricultural information and technologies at the click
of a mouse.
Mayor Maria Minda Fontanilla of Bacnotan, La Union, expressed her
support for and appreciation of the caravan, in particular, and
the K-AgriNet program, in general.
In
Vigan, Ilocos Sur, a parade at Plaza Salcedo launched the event.
Some 150 participants were able to check out on the different agriculture-related
Websites, including that of PCARRD, through the laptops inside the
yellow bus.
This
first leg of the caravan, which runs from March 27 to April 6, will
also conduct basic ICT training in other parts of northern Luzon,
including Ilocos Norte, Isabela, Apayao, Nueva Ecija, and Pampanga.
The
caravan will also visit Bicol, the Visayas, and Mindanao. (Paul
