event will have an exhibit, research and development (R&D)
symposium, and a dialogue with the residents/stakeholders
of Mt. Makiling.
The
exhibits will open on July 26 at the Baker Hall of UPLB. To
be featured are the winning artworks on Mt. Makiling, a pottery
demonstration, and interpretative dances by the students of
the Philippine High School for the Arts, as well as R&D
projects on Mt. Makiling. |

On
July 27, UPLB and the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau
will conduct a dialogue with the stakeholders and residents of Mt.
Makiling. The discussion will focus on the conservation and protection
of the mountain’s resources.
The
R&D symposium will be held on July 28 at the SEARCA Auditorium
in UPLB. Special guests will be Secretary Estrella F. Alabastro
of the Department of Science and Technology and Dr. Reynaldo U.
Solidum Jr., director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology
and Seismology. Solidum’s keynote speech will focus on the
volcanic characteristics of Mt. Makiling.
Winners
of the annual R&D awards will be presented during the symposium.
An
awareness campaign about LBSCFI and its participation to the science
and technology week shall be spearheaded by the Los Baños
local government.
PCARRD
and nine other institutions established the Los Baños Science
Community in 1984 with the vision of transforming the town into
a model community through science and technology. It has since become
a foundation with 22 member-agencies comprising public and private
