| Dr.
Luis Rey I. Velasco, chancellor of the University of the Philippines
Los Baños (UPLB), was elected as the new president
of the Los Baños Science Community Foundation Inc.
(LBSCFI) during its Board of Trustees’ meeting held
recently. His two-year term started this June and will end
in May 2008.
He
replaced PCARRD Executive Director Patricio S. Faylon,
who headed the foundation from 1999 to 2006. Faylon is now
the secretary.
Re-elected
vice-president was Dr. Rafael D. Guerrero III of the Philippine
Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development. Dr.
Arsenio M. Balisacan, director of the
SEAMEO Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research
in Agriculture, was elected treasurer.

Other
members of the board of trustees are Dr. Robert S. Zeigler, director
general of the International Rice Research Institute; Dr. Agustin
Piñol, officer-in-charge of the Ecosystems Research and Development
Bureau; Los Baños Mayor Caesar P. Perez; Dr. Alexander Madrigal
of the Department of Science and Technology Region 4; and Dr. Cecilio
R. Arboleda, president of the UPLB Foundation Inc.
LBSCFI
is a nonstock, nonprofit organization committed to uplifting the
livelihood, education, and environment of the Los Baños community
and its constituents through science and technology. Its 22 member-agencies
are government, international, public, and private research and
development institutions in Los Baños.
Since
its establishment in 1984, LBSCFI has facilitated the transfer and
adoption of S&T research outputs and services generated by its
member-agencies to clients and users through various projects. (Alexandra
