Info network on horticulture
on the Web |
|
When
searching for the latest in horticultural research and development
in the Philippines, check out the Horticulture Information Network
(HORTINET) at http://www.hortinet.pcarrd.dost.gov.ph. |
 |
|
Information on
horticulture technology, market, products, library, bazaar, directory,
policy, and current events can be accessed from this Website.
A one-stop
site for stakeholders in the Philippine horticulture industry, HORTINET
has information on fruits (banana, papaya, durian, pineapple, mango);
ornamentals (mokara and dendrobium orchids); cutflowers (mums);
cutfoliage; and vegetables (tomato, carrots, potato).
|
|
This
hub also serves the major growers/cooperatives, exporters, traders,
processors, buyers, input suppliers, experts, and other stakeholders.
HORTINET sets the ground to help those interested get into horticulture
business in the country.
The
network was formulated under the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading
Program (SET-UP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
It was patterned after the Mango Information Network, a project
funded in 1997 by DOST-PCARRD and the United Nations Development
Programme.
PCARRD-DOST
serves as the central processing center and hosts the HORTINET Web
site. The Council collaborates closely with the Mindanao DOST regional
offices and the Cebu City-based Central Visayas Information Sharing
Network Foundation, Inc. (Liza R. Gutierrez, S&T Media Service)
