K-AgriNet info caravan
ends in Caraga and Region 10 |
|
|
The
last leg of the K-AgriNet (Knowledge Networking towards Enterprising
Agricultural Communities) nationwide information caravan covered
the Caraga Region and Region 10 on May 22–26.
Kicking
off from Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, the caravan in its five-day
run also stopped in Caraga’s Surigao City and Butuan City,
then in Region 10’s Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, and Cagayan
de Oro City.

The
Department of Science and Technology Caraga’s information
and communications technology (ICT) bus––this time a
blue one––provided the mobile classroom for farmers
to get to know computers and learn about agricultural information
and technologies through the Internet.
As
it was in earlier caravans, the Mindanao run was welcomed by governors,
mayors, other local executives, and agricultural officials.
In
Cagayan de Oro City, Governor Oscar Moreno said that with ICT, “everything
is available” and that “information is a neutralizing
gift from God; it is a source of power.” |
| Other
provincial and local officials acknowledged the multi-agency cooperation
in promoting the use of ICT in gaining access to agricultural information
as well as marketing agricultural products. They also pledged support
for the K-AgriNet program.
The
K-AgriNet team is composed of PCARRD, Philippine Rice Research Institute,
Development Academy of the Philippines, and Department of Agrarian
Reform. (Butch S. Pagcaliwagan, S&T Media Service)
