This training manual consists of a package of training modules.  It is designed to serve as a training/learning guide for information managers, officers, and trainees.  It can likewise serve as a reference in designing a communication plan for specific programs.  As a whole this manual further defines the basic principles and skills involved in strategic communication planning and their practical importance in development programs and projects.

Applied Communication

Strategic Communication Planning and Management:  A Package of Training Modules
A major concern in communicating research results is that most technology generators are non-communication managers or specialists.  Due to their education and training, there is always a tendency to view things in technical terms and provide little consideration to the level of knowledge of potential technology adoptors.  As a result, technologies generated, most often, are left unutilized or, at the least, underutilized.  This training manual defines the basic principles and skills involved in strategic communication planning and their practical importance in development programs and projects.    This self-help kit was designed to serve as a training/learning guide for information managers, officers, and trainees.  It can, likewise, serve as a helpful reference in designing a communication plan for specific programs.  This is presented in modularized form consisting of eight modules.  Each module can be read or presented on its own, without the reader or participants having to go through the whole manual or course.

Livestock

Raising Small Ruminants Under Coconuts
Raising small ruminant under coconut becomes an imperative technical option as it becomes a good source of secondary income for coconut farmers.  Moreover, the fact that small ruminant can provide for their protein needs of growing children can not be discarded.  With these considerations, both development experts and workers are gearing their efforts toward the full promotion of the small ruminant-coconut production technology.  The publication of this manual is a fruit of such promotional undertaking.  This training module is prepared as a guide for development/extension workers in conducting farmers’ training courses on the subject.  It contains eight modularized lessons on the various aspects of sheep and goat production under coconuts and these lessons can be used, presented, or read separately.  Another module on participatory communication strategies has been added to serve the needs of rural development workers.

Swine Record Keeping
The Philippine swine industry, along with poultry, has consistently dominated other livestock industries in terms of volume and value of production. Through the Swine Production Performance Project, the productive, as well as reproductive performances of commercial farms in the Philippines have been monitored, collected, summarized and analyzed.  Thus, to help more local swine raisers monitor and evaluated their individual performances, the system on swine record keeping adopted by the above-cited Project is being diffused.  Toward this end, PCARRD and the Livestock Development Council of the Department of Agriculture co-published this manual with the hope that more farms will realize the importance of record keeping track of information within their farms.    This module is an excellent tool for the farmer to continuously learn the facts about his farm and improve on his farming methods as it provides the real score in his business.
