The complex challenge of mitigating El Niņo necessitates participation from all concerned sectors. Effort must be exerted to gather all available information concerning El Niņo and its mitigation, integrate all relevant R&D results and put these in an accessible form. It is an acceptable fact that damages from El Niņo and La Niņa are inevitable. But their negative impact could be greatly alleviated by espousing awareness and preparedness among the affected sectors. The Special publication on ENSO project addresses this need.
