ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECT OF LA NIÑA PHENOMENON IN PHILIPPINE AGRICULTURE |
|
|
The ENSO cycle brings about the occurrence of two climatic extremes-- drought and excessive rains/flooding. The former is the characteristic impact of El Niņo in the Philippines, while the latter is the general effect of La Niņa. The destruction and losses brought about by these two phases in the sectors of agriculture, forestry and fisheries are manifested in varied ways. Assessments of the effects of both events are therefore necessary to gain a better understanding of the phenomena and provide useful insights in dealing with their successive episodes. In 1998, an assessment of the impact of El Niņo in Philippine agriculture was made. A similar project on assessing the impact of La Niņa commenced in 1999. View Abstract of Project Terminal Report |
