COMMUNICATION COMPONENT OF THE EL NIÑO R&D PROGRAM

In difficult and trying times, especially when the situation being faced is beyond human control, awareness is the best tool to mitigate potential negative outcomes. This is where the campaign on information, education, and communication (IEC)  comes into play.

El Niņo's drought-induced problems were too complex and extensive for any single developed technology to fully address. In most cases, alleviation of the expected impact is the only recourse. To many, a combination of alternatives prove beneficial. In all these instances, however, it is the availability of the right information that makes the difference. Complementing national efforts, the science and technology sector, on its part, tried to improve the awareness level of target groups within the sectors of agriculture and fisheries through production of IEC materials.
