CHAPTER VI NUTRIENT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR AQUATIC ANIMALS (Tilapia, Milkfish, Tiger Shrimp) This chapter presents requirements rather than recommendations. Most animal nutritionists involved in the formulation of feeds for aquatic animals are foremost poultry and swine nutritionists thus values presented are from actual field experiences. The PHILSAN nutrient specifications for Tilapia was based mainly on the experiences of nutritionists involved in the production of commercial Tilapia feeds for the past ten years. The nutrient specifications consider the commonly used feed ingredients, the process involved in the production of Tilapia feeds and raising methods as well. For milkfish (Bangus) and tiger shrimps, summaries of known nutrient requirements are presented. There is not much production of feeds for milkfish because most raisers still rely on natural food and only use commercial feed during the finishing stage. Shrimp growers either import their feed requirements or use shrimp feeds produced by companies which specialize in slirii-np production. Nutrient requirements from various institutions are likewise presented
to provide additional information.
