CHAPTER IV NUTRIENT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR POULTRY This chapter presents the various nutrient recommendations for poultry. In this revision, we included nutrient recommendations for broiler breeders and nutrient specifications for duck feeds. Tables 22, 23 and 32 show the PHILSAN recommendations, which are based primarily on field experiences of practicing nutritionists. The recommendations consider, among others, the various feed ingredients and energy levels which are commonly used. The recommendations specify nutrient requirements under three energy levels commonly used in formulating poultry rations. Should one desire to use other energy levels, the nutrient recommendations may be recalculated since the recommendations are also expressed as ratios of energy in the diet. Tables 24-31 present the nutrient recommendations for different breeds of broiler breeders while Tables 33-39 give the nutrient recommendations for different strains of commercial egg- type chickens. Tables 40 and 41 show nutrient recommendations for egg-type breeders. Tables 42-48 present the vitamin and mineral supplementations for broilers, breeders and commercial egg-type chickens. Included in Tables 49-52 are the nutrient specifications, vitamins and mineral allowances and worldwide nutrient recommendations for ducks. The recommendations specify only nutrients which are commonly considered in feed formulation, since these are the ones often deficient or inadequate in common rations. It is, however, recognized that the other nutrients are equally important, but experience indicates that these nutrients are often adequate in practical diets and are, therefore, seldomly considered in feed formulation. Nutrient recommendations from various institutions and poultry breeders
are, likewise, presented to provide added information should one feel that
PHILSAN recommendations are not applicable under certain situations.
