Members


From a backwoods town with a small agricultural college established in 1909, Los Baños has evolved into the science mecca that it is today.  For its part, LBSC member agencies are under the umbrella of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Department of Agriculture (DA).  Members also include international organizations, private entities, a national institute, schools and the municipal government of Los Baños.  As of June 2000, it is composed of the following agencies:

 

ASEAN Regional Center for Biodiversity Conservation (ARCBC), a joint cooperation project between ASEAN and the European Union committed to intensify biodiversity  conservation in the region.  The DENR serves as project executive agency.

Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), has 102 local councils and 10 scouting regions of BSP.  Scouting in the Philippines was organized in 1923 to imbue the virtue of love of God, country and fellowmen, among others.
Bureau of Plant Industry-Los Baños National Crops Research and Development Center (BPI-LBNCRDC), one of the country’s strongest stations for plant breeding and crop production research.
DOST-Region IV, works to accelerate the country’s scientific research and technological innovation capability, to enhance productivity and global competitiveness of production and services sectors, as well as, to address the needs of the poor and vulnerable through support of social programs and services.
Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB), an agency under DENR that formulates and recommends an integrated research program relating to Philippine ecosystems and natural resources.
Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI), a DOST agency which has become one of the leading institutions in forest products R&D in Southeast Asia.
International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), one of the 16 nonprofit, public sector research centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) committed to improving the lives of poor rice farmers and consumers everywhere.
Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) at Los Baños, the only universal bank with a social mission to spur countryside development.  Its crucial mission of curbing poverty in the countryside is maintained by sustaining its viability as a leading bank institution.
The Laguna Lake Development Authority, an agency under DENR that leads, promotes, and accelerates the development and balanced growth of the Laguna de Bay basin into a future source of domestic and industrial water supply.
Laguna State Polytechnic College – Los Baños Campus (formerly Los Baños College of Fisheries [LBCF]), offers courses on fishery technology and education, human resource management, and information technology.
Laguna Water District (LWD), a public-quasi corporation established in January 1977 to meet the water demand of approximately 10,000 households/establishments in Los Baños, Bay, and Calauan.
Los Baños Freshwater Fisheries Research Station (LBFFRS), established by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to backstop its expanded fisheries program through research and dispersal of fish fingerlings.
The Municipal Government of Los Baños, envisions a community where social justice, equity, and sustainable economic development, freedom, and happiness for all people reign.
Philippine Agriculture and Resources Research Foundation, Inc. (PARRFI), a private, nonstick, nonprofit, nonpolitical, and nonsectarian corporation which assists public and private institutions engaged in R&D in agriculture, forestry, and natural resources.  Its objectives run in tandem with those of PCARRD.
Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD), a DOST council established in 1988 to plan, coordinate, and monitor all R&D projects dealing with the country’s aquatic and marine resources.
Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD), a DOST council which coordinates the country’s R&D efforts in agriculture, forestry, and natural resources.  It has become a model for other DOST councils, as well as agricultural research systems of other Third World countries.
Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA), an attached agency of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports and consults the Cultural Center of the Philippines for policy and program implementation.  It follows a general secondary program, combined with an arts-oriented curriculum geared to develop the students’ exceptional talents in arts.
Philippine Rice Research Institute (PHILRICE), a DA-attached agency established in 1985 to develop and implement a national rice R&D program that will sustain and further improve the gains made in rice production, and strengthen efforts to solve location-specific problems.
SEAMEO Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), is Southeast Asia’s resource center for sustainable agriculture and rural development.  It promotes cooperation in education, R&D, knowledge and information exchange, and policy studies among Southeast Asian nations.
University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), maintains a leadership position as one of the premier universities in basic and applied sciences in the Asia-Pacific region.  Its curricular offerings, modern facilities, high-caliber faculty, and research outputs, highlight the university’s efforts in maintaining its relevance to meet the emerging manpower and knowledge needs of the nation and are geared toward improving the lives of the people.
UPLB Foundation, Inc. (UPLBFI), serves as UPLB’s alternative marketing and financial management system for programs, projects, and consultancy engagements sourced locally and internationally.
