In
recognition of the outstanding partnership with the International
Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and
Cereals and Legumes Asia Network (CLAN) during the past two decades,
PCARRD, through its Executive Director Patricio S. Faylon, received
a certificate of recognition from the ICRISATDirector General, William
D. Dar. Dar honored the heads of national agricultural research
systems of CLAN member countries as part of the 35th anniversary
celebration of the India-based center.
Faylon
received the certificate during the meeting of the Asia-Pacific
Association of Agricultural Research Institutions and CLAN from
October 8-10 held at ICRISAT.
ICRISAT
is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization that does innovative agricultural
research and capacity building for sustainable development with
a wide array of partners across the globe. ICRISAT's mission is
to help empower 600 million poor people to overcome hunger, poverty
and a degraded environment in the dry tropics through better agriculture.
ICRISAT belongs to the Alliance of Future Harvest Centers of the
Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research.
PCARRD
and ICRISAT have enjoyed a fruitful relationship since 1975 in institutionalizing
the process of research and priority setting in the Philippines.
Capacity building and information sharing has also been one of the
modes of collaboration with regular visits and exchange of scientists.
These helped strengthen research capacity in the Filipino national
program on areas, ranging from crop improvement and crop management
to virology, statistics, geographic information system, and biotechnology
applications. (Maria Estela H. Facundo, S&T Media Service)
