Davao City -
Eighteen out-of-school youths (OSY) from Barangay Eden in Toril
were empowered with basic Information Communication Technology (ICT)
skills after a five-day training sponsored by the Asia Pacific Peace
and Prosperity Initiative (APPPI). The activity is part of APPPI’s
project called Enhancing Capability of Davao Out-of-School Youth
(ECD-OSY), in partnership with the Southern Mindanao Agriculture
and Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMARRDEC), University
of Southeastern Philippines (USEP), and the Davao City Chamber of
Commerce and Industry.
Led by the
USEP Extension Office, the Computer Literacy Training was held at
USEP’s College of Governance, Business and Economics Computer
Laboratory on July 9- 13, 2007.
Mr. Reynilo
Garcia of SMARRDEC served as resource person, with Mr. Paolo Sandalo,
Training Officer-APPPI and Mr. Louie B. Morales of USEP Extension
Division assisting.
The training
equipped the OSY participants with basic computer skills as part
of their preparation in becoming competent agricultural technicians.
Basic use of computers and software, such as operating Microsoft
Office Tools and Internet use, were introduced to the participants.
The
participants were very pleased with their newly acquired skills.
One participant commented, “Naga pasalamat gyud mi pag-ayo
nga mas mapadali na ang among pagpangita ug impormasyon nga magamit
sa field (We are very thankful that we can now easily access information
that would be useful to our field work)”. (Editha Pañgan/
