PCARRD, RDA Korea commences English language course for R&D

The collaboration of the Rural Development Administration (RDA), South Korea and PCARRD yields another pioneering activity, the English language course for R&D.

After 15 years of partnership, RDA works with PCARRD to implement an English as a Second Language training course for Korean scientists and researchers. The course, which will run from 02 to 29 July, is part of the PCARRD-RDA 2007 Work Plan of Cooperation.

The course involves three learning modules, particularly the (1) applied communication refresher; (2) intensive applied communication practice, and (3) an integrative module on applied communication. These modules will be delivered through a combination of classroom and practical learning like study visits and cultural immersion.

PCARRD developed the course based on its assessment of the participant-scientists’ training needs. Hence, the course focuses on conversational techniques and language structures. The intensive speaking and listening practices are seen to improve the participants’ English communication skills in the context of research and development.

With PCARRD’s projects and initiatives as key destinations of the study visits, the program also serves as a venue for knowledge sharing between Filipino and Korean experts.

Five Korean scientists, who earlier affirmed their need for English speaking and listening practice, are currently taking the course. (Maria Estela H. Facundo, S&T Media Service)
