| TAIPEI,
Taiwan - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and its
attached agencies participated in the 1st Joint Science and Technology
Committee Meeting between the Philippines and Taiwan held here last
27-31 May.
The
Philippine and Taiwanese delegates discussed possible cooperation
between the National Science Council (NSC) of Taiwan and the DOST.
In this light, research proposals were presented to identify areas
of collaborative S&T between the two countries.
PCARRD’s
proposal, the “PCARRD and Science and Technology Policy Research
and Information Center (STPI) Collaboration on Technology Forecasting”
was approved during the Working Group Meeting.
Under
the said collaboration, the two agencies will be exchanging information
and expertise on technology forecasting. STPI will also be providing
training and technical assistance to PCARRD on this field. STPI
is one of the few well-known institutions in Taiwan in this field.
The
development of appropriate databases will be one of the major milestones
of the collaboration.
Through
these activities, Taiwan can identify possible investment opportunities
in the agriculture, forestry and natural resources sectors of the
Philippines.
Philippine
delegates also visited different S&T institutions in Taiwan
such as the National Taiwan University, Hsinchu Science-based Industrial
Park Administration (SIPA), Industrial Technology Research Institute
(ITRI), National Center for High Performance Computing (NCHC), and
National Space Organization (NSPO). (Pia Paula P. Mateo, S&T
