The Cotabato Agriculture and Resources Research and Development
Consortium (CARRDEC) recently trained local human resource on web
development, an initiative seen to improve the implementation of
the Techno Gabay Program (TGP) in the region.
The
training, held last 8-11 May at the University of Southern Mindanao
(USM), Kabacan, Cotabato familiarized the participants on the Farmers’
Information and Technology Services (FITS) databases; and improved
local skills on web page development.

| Modules
included introductory lessons on popular web development tools such
as Photoshop CS2, Flash, Dreamweaver, and Open Source Content Management
System.
Thirty-six
participants consisting of FITS center staff (Center Manager, Technology
Service Specialist, Information Service Specialist and Magsasaka
Siyentista), Regional Applied Communication Office and Regional
Management Information System, and representatives of the member-agencies
of the consortium completed the program.
With
this initiative, TGP hopes to assist organized producers, input
suppliers and local government units improve or develop their websites,
which could be linked to FITS websites. This is seen to enhance
the dissemination of important information such as the availability
of agricultural products, production inputs, component technologies
and expert services.
Resource
persons were Mr. Joel G. Sigua, Web Developer of USM, Mr. Eugene
G. Ranjo, Network Administrator and a faculty of the College of
Engineering and Computing of USM, and Engr. Renel M. Alucilja, CARRDEC
