LOS BAÑOS,
Laguna - The Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc.
(LBSCFI) celebrated here the National Science and Technology Week
from 17 to 20 July 2007 with a glare.
With the theme
“Science, Technology, and Innovation for Progress,”
the celebration was indeed glaring with its showcase of various
developments in technology and research from the science community,
a symposium, a farmers’ forum and an open house in various
member agencies.
All
22 members of the science community showed support and participated
in the celebration, aptly called SyenSaya, which was launched
last 20 July and will be embodying the annual LBSCFI NSTW celebration.
PCARRD
coordinated the symposium, while the International Rice Research
Institute (IRRI) ran the exhibits. The University of the Philippines
facilitated the Ugnayang Pamayanan, which is an open forum
among Mount Makiling residents/farmers while the Department of Science
and Technology (DOST) agencies participated in the open house by
putting up exhibits and information materials made accessible to
the public in their respective offices.
To
cap the weeklong celebration, the symposium Science, Technology
and Innovation for Progress: Focus on Biotechnology and Environment
was held at SEARCA Auditorium with IRRI Deputy Director General
for General Operations and Support Services, Dr. William G. Padolina
as keynote speaker.
DOST Secretary
Estrella F. Alabastro, Dr. Luis Rey Velasco, UPLB Chancellor and
LBSCFI President, Dr. Patricio S. Faylon, PCARRD Executive Director
and former LBSCFI President, and heads of different member agencies
