The
Region Eight Applied Communication Task Force (REACTF) of the Visayas
Consortium for Agriculture and Resources Program (ViCARP) celebrated
its 20th year of reaching out to farmers, fisher folks and entrepreneurs
in Eastern Visayas at the Garden Beach Resort of the Visayas State
University (VSU) last 26 June 2007.
Dr. Paciencia
P. Milan, president of VSU and chairperson of ViCARP- Regional Research
and Development Coordinating Council (RRDCC), congratulated the
group for its 20 years of fruitful performance. She acknowledged
the group for its applied communication support to ViCARP and for
its commitment to service.
REACTF coordinator,
Dr. Wolfreda T. Alesna presented the report of the Regional Applied
Communication Office (RACO) and acknowledged all applied communication
partners in the region and the supporters of REACTF projects.
REACTF is the
first applied communications network in the country. In the span
of 20 years, the REACTF made numerous “landmark” accomplishments
including its pioneering projects aimed at the transfer of technology
and at value formation and change. One example is the use of songs,
developmental drama and paintings; and radio programs to meet these
objectives.
In 1990 and
1992, it launched two development song festivals that produced 22
developmental songs, of which, 11 are for the environment. The environmental
songs were produced in CDs and copyrighted in 2001.
In 1999, it
produced the first ViCARP TechnoPinoy CD that contains 386 popularized
research and development (R&D) information in agriculture, natural
resources and health. It was copyrighted the same year.
REACTF members
have also won several regional and national awards in R&D and
in the Professional Media Awards.
The
celebration concluded with messages of continued support from REACTF
to ViCARP’s programs and activities. (Raellen Diaz, ViCARP-RCTU)
