The
team of researchers implementing the Techno Gabay Program (TGP)
performance evaluation and impact assessment held a meeting at PCARRD
last 25-27 July 2007 to discuss the project results in response
to the initial comments and suggestions of the PCARRD Governing
Council.
The
participants discussed the TGP implementation in the regions to
ensure effective technology adoption and promotion; improve the
extension services; and to enhance farm productivity and efficiency.
With
the survey of about 5,000 farmers and 167 FITS centers nationwide
about to complete in December 2007, it was deemed necessary to discuss
the various findings from the different regions.
The
results will serve as basis for further improving the TGP implementation
and can be a gauge through which the PCARRD Governing Council and
the other stakeholders can evaluate the program’s contribution
to the rural economy.
Representatives
from the College of Economics and Management – University
of the Philippines Los Baños and the TGP management served
as reviewers and evaluators of the project during the meeting.
The
meeting participants also discussed the publication of the report
in 2008.
The
study is mainly a micro level performance assessment and impact
evaluation. The macro and regional-level evaluation of the program
has been slated for funding and implementation upon completion of
the micro level study.
Hence
the preliminary results presented during the meeting will form part
of the reference documents to be used in packaging the proposal
for the macro and regional impact evaluation of TGP. (Princess Alma
