The
Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) in Batac, Ilocos Norte,
recently launched the Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture (OPAPA)
Hour, a 30-minute radio broadcast which aims to promote the services
of OPAPA and easier access to relevant and updated information.
The program is aired every Sunday at 4:30-5:00 am over MBC DZJC
Laoag.
“The
radio program will become the vehicle for more farmers to know about
the Pinoy Farmers’ Internet and more listeners will know the
efforts to advance agriculture by providing faster access to information,”
explained Ms. Alma Aguinaldo, Regional Applied Communication Office
(RACO) coordinator during the maiden broadcast. The radio program
will be aired for three months.
The
program will disseminate information through its components, which
include airing of PhilRice News, Topic of the Day and the Question
and Answer portion featuring a live interview with the Cyber Community
partners, particularly members of the Quiling Tenga-Laud Libtong
Zanjera Association in Quiling Batac, Ilocos Norte.
While
the farmers’ call center in Northwest Luzon is still being
processed, the radio program will serve as the farmers’ call
center for the meantime.
In
a related development, the Batac Cyber Community Office was inaugurated
last April 10, 2007 by Dr. Flora Gagni, Director, DA, RFU –
I and 400 guests, implementers and farmer-partners of the Palayamanan
from the provinces of Apayao, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur,
Abra and La Union.
The
farmer-partners from the Quiling Tengnga Laud-Libtong Zanjera Association
who attended ICT training demonstrated to the guests how to surf
the Internet and download information from the Pinoy Farmers’
Internet. (ILARRDEC)
