The
abaca, bamboo furniture and handicraft, goat and organic fertilizer
(OF) industries stand to benefit soon from the R&D program “Supply
Chain Improvement for Selected AFNR Commodities in the Philippines,
Phase 1: Evaluation Research.”
Proponents
are all set for the program implementation as they have refined
and finalized their work plan during their inception meeting held
last 5-6 July 2007 at PCARRD.
During
the said meeting, the proponents refined the methodology and data
collection procedures; identified the study areas; programmed the
approved fund to the main implementing and co-implementing agencies;
delineated their respective responsibilities; and finalized other
technical and administrative matters.
The
proponents have also identified the focus products per commodity
and the provinces/cities where the study will be conducted. The
identified study areas are either the leading (a) production areas
(PAs) or supply centers (SCs); or (b) consumption areas (CAs) or
demand centers (DCs) of the selected commodities.

*For
Region 7, the study of supply chain of abaca will focus on finished
products such as in furnitures/fixtures, handicrafts and fashion
accessories.
