Rationale
In the past and even until now, various research and development
(R&D) activities on various aspects of watershed has been implemented
and are being conducted by the government and nongovernment organizations.
While substantial data and information on this strategic forest
service has been locally generated through the years, most of these
remain unconsolidated and largely unexplored. Primarily, because
the information and technologies locally generated in the past have
not been effectively and widely disseminated to the public/end-users.
With the global advances in information, communication and technology,
sharing and transferring of information regarding this service are
getting more effective and efficient than yesterday. With these
opportunities, a mechanism for consolidating, coordinating and supporting
strategic and adaptive R&D information network is proposed to
address the issue stated above.
This information network will be an Internet accessible database
that will serve as repository of structured data that are in a usable
and findable public-shared environment. It will also support, interconnect
and share information and facilities among sectors with common interests.
Furthermore, it will serve as an important development tool in enhancing
the dissemination of relevant and credible information/technologies
generated from various local R&D activities.
Objectives
The main objectives of the network are:
• to serve as thematic focal point to various R&D information
on Philippine watershed;
• to facilitate the sourcing, building-up, delivering and
exchanging of information to support their sustainable development;
and
• to promote the state-of-the-art of this forest-based theme
to interested people with access to the Internet.
Expected Outputs
•
Dissemination of recent and credible information on Philippine watershed
through the Internet, and
• Establishment and maintenance of key stakeholders with common
interests on the sustainable development of this information networks
for the forest-based theme.
