The
Agriculture and Resource Economics (ARE) is an area of discipline
in agriculture and natural resources R&D that aims to contribute
to the growth and development of all the commodities of economic
importance to the country, whether in a local, regional or international
scale. It looks into the promotion of efficiency, competitiveness
and sustainability of production, and environmental sustainability,
economic competition, and poverty and equity.
The
Agriculture and Resource Economics R&D deals with both overall
macroeconomic perspective and microeconomic details. ARE is a
dynamic field of research. Its focus and directions change according
to the changes in the national and global economic scene. Its
contribution and continued relevance to the overall R&D activity,
particularly in policy research, has been recognized.
The
macroeconomic R&D areas are focused on global competitiveness
in agriculture and natural resources, macroeconomics and sectoral
policies, food security evaluation, and evaluation of R and D
management system in ANR.
R&D
areas on microeconomics focus on technology assessment and economic
evaluation studies, product and market research and development
studies, and natural resources sustainability and environmental
quality studies.

on-going PCARRD funded projects are:
- Analysis
of price system and trade related concerns in mango in the local
and Asian markets (CLSU)
- Impact
assessment of major technologies in mango in the Philippines
(CLSU)
- Policy
analysis and advocacy for mango in the Philippines (PCARRD)
- Enhancing
PCARRD’s policy advocacy role in agriculture and natural resources
- Simulating
the effects of trade liberalization and other domestic polices
on Philippine agriculture
