AgMachIN Stakeholders
Workshop
As
an initial activity for the development of integrated agricultural
mechanization information system (IAMIS) a stakeholder’s
workshop was held last March 17-18, 2005 at the National Seed
Laboratory Conference Room, BPI Compound, Quezon City.
Twenty-seven participants representing sixteen different agencies
attended the workshop to identify and finalize the information
needs assessment and operationalization of agricultural machinery
information system.
In a welcome speech, Director Nicomedes P.
Eleazar of the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural Research
(DA-BAR) expressed support to the AgMachIN program. Eleazar said, the AgMachIN
Program could contribute to modernizing the agricultural sector. It would be a
step toward competitive and world class information sharing and exchange. On
the other hand, Dr. Digna O. Manzanilla of the Philippine Council for
Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD)
emphasized the services that the information network could provide and the
dynamics of relating it with other existing information systems. Presentations
of the IAMIS as a component of AgMachIN, the Corn Machinery finder of BPRE and
the Agricultural Mechanization Needs Survey project of UPLB-BAR followed.
The workshop continued with the participants
identification of data elements needed and provision of additional information
on existing infosystems not yet identified in the AgmachIN survey. The
participants classified the data elements and came-up with the following into 5
sub -systems: 1) company profile includes company name, address, contact
number, services offered and other related company information 2) machinery
profile includes the name of the machine, features, specifications, pictures,
source of technology and other relevant information 3) provincial profile
includes production area by commodity and by province, mechanization needs and
other provincial listing 4) publication any publication related to each
machinery and 5) policy the policies that concerns such machinery.
The last activity was intended for the
consolidation, setting timetable, identification of agency roles and resources
requirements for the operationalization of IAMIS.
