Taungya
The
taungya involves the planting of cash or food crops between newly
planted forest seedlings in a reforestation project. Farmers raise
crops while the forest trees are still young. After 2-3 years, depending
on the tree spacing and tree species, the canopy closes, and light-demanding
annual crops can no longer be planted. The culminating vegetation
is a pure tree plantation. Farmers then transfer to other open areas
to repeat the process. This can be applied by using different reforestation
species. Next
