Protein
Bank (Fodder Bank)
Leguminous
fodder trees or shrubs (e.g., 'ipil-ipil' [Leucaena leucocephala],
'kakawate' [Gliricidia sepium], desmodium [Desmodium rensonii],
etc.) are established as small stands on certain portions of the
farm or pasture area serving as a supplementary source of protein-rich
fodder for livestock. They also serve as fence. They are regularly
pruned and the top and branch prunings are then fed to animals.
