International
Foundation for Science (IFS) - An NGO providing support to
developing country scientists to conduct, in a developing country,
relevant and high quality research on the management, use, and
conservation of biological resources and their environment. IFS
believes that the interests of both science and development are
best served by promoting and nurturing the research efforts of
young science graduates, who are at the beginning of their research
careers. Since 1974, IFS has provided support, mainly in the form
of small research grants, to over 3,200 scientists in 99 developing
countries.
Southeast
Asian Network for Agroforestry Education (SEANAFE) - network
of universities and technical colleges in Indonesia, Lao PDR,
Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The network provides resources
for students, teachers and leaders in universities and colleges
of agroforestry and integrated natural resources management. The
aim is to contribute to educational change and sustainable land
management and livelihood through improved agroforestry practices.
Philippine
Agroforestry Education and Research Network (PAFERN) - network
of universities and colleges in the Philippines and the Institute
of Agroforestry of the University of the Philippines at Los Baños
as the national secretariat. National Network attached to SEANAFE.
Agroforestry
Seed Information Clearinghouse (AFSICH) - established in the
Philippines to serve the information needs of farmers, peoples'
organizations, nongovernment organizations and government. As
a formal project, it ended in 1994. Operations continue, but are
run at a much reduced level through the Seed Science and Technology
Division of the Department of Agronomy, University of the Philippines
Los Baños. Information on seed sources and technologies
for promising agroforestry species is collected and distributed
through correspondence, brouchures, newsletters, and training
sessions.
