and packages appropriate technologies for different commodities
and/or dominant production systems after successful verification
in regional R and D centers and cooperating stations
The
national multi-commodity centers are based in academic institutions
with broad base of basic disciplines needed in fundamental research
and with a strong applied communication support.
National
Single Commodity R and D Centers are national centers with very
specific commodity responsibility(ies) by virtue of laws and
decrees that created them.
They
conduct basic and applied R and D on their commodity responsibility.
The
implement programs/projects across a broad range of disciplines
and packages appropriate technologies and dominant production
systems on their commodity responsibility after successful verification
in regional R&D centers and cooperating stations.
The
regional R and D Centers conduct applied research for commodities
of major importance in the regions where the centers are located.
These
centers verify research results from the national R&D centers
which show potential for application in specific locations, and
fine-tune component and packages of technology conceptualized
in the national R and D centers for application or adaptation
to the needs and conditions in the region.
These
are located in strategic places in the country representing the
basic agroclimates, and are based mostly at state colleges or
universities, while others are under the Department of Agriculture.
Cooperating stations are selected
stations of DA, State College and Universities (SCUs), or private
research centers located in various parts of the country.
They provide facilities and/or
sites where adaptive trials or field experiments are undertaken
to take into account micro-environment differences.
The stations with adequate resources
and developed capability are also involved in adaptive trials
and verification activities.
