Description |
|
In consonance with the National
Environmental R&D Program which adopts the framework of
sustainable development initiatives embodied in the Philippine
Agenda 21, the National Environmental Management R&D Commodity
team was formed by PCARRD in 1988. In terms of nature,
the commodity is more of an area of concern rather than a true
to form commodities as those in forestry, crops and livestock.
The commodity represents the incorporation of environmental
concerns for the upland and forest ecosystem, natural resource
ecosystem and the general environment (i.e. across two or more
ecosystems and global environmental concerns). |
|
|
|
| |
Specifically, the National
Environmental Management R&D Commodity covers the following
concerns or research thrusts:
- Environmental impact assessment
of different interventions/activities across ecosystem
- Pollution and waste management
system for natural resources and other non-agricultural
ecosystems (e.g. urban areas)
- Disaster/hazard mitigation
and rehabilitation/protection of environmentally critical
areas
- Environment and natural
resource accounting with focus on intangible aspect/benefits
- Development, documentation,
evaluation and application of environment friendly and indigenous
resource management practices and technologies
- Global warming and climate
change, specifically carbon sequestration
