Fresh
Tomato Pomace (FTP) as good feed for growing and fattening pigs.
Caluya,
Sair and Balneg (1999) of MMSU studied the feeding of fresh tomato
pomace to grower and finisher pigs as substitute for the commercial
mash. Feeding of 35% FTP as substitute for commercial mash
in the finishing pigs resulted in the significantly higher final
weight, total gain in weight, average daily gain in weight and
feed consumption. Feed efficiency was comparable to those
fed with 100% commercial mash. Feed cost per kg gain is
significantly decreased with increasing levels of FTP. However,
the technology is limited only to areas where tomato is
processed into tomato paste that produce tomato pomace as byproduct.
